During the recently-concluded draft for the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Peshawar Zalmi chairman Javed Afridi paid tribute to late Zubair Ahmed while lauding the efforts of his father Mahmood Shah, who was present at the PSL draft alongside his another son Uzair Shah.

“During #PSLDrafts Peshawar Zalmi remember Young Zubair Ahmed, who lost his life due to hit cricket ball on the head in Swabi,” Zalmi CEO posted on microblogging site Twitter.

Javed, who is the Chief Executive Office for Haier Pakistan presented a souvenir to Zubair’s father during the 2018 PSL draft which eventually saw around 501 players international and national-level Pakistani players were up for the grabs for the six distinct teams with Multan Sultans the latest edition in the professional domestic competition.

Interestingly, Javed made it clear by saying Zubair’s brother Uzair will travel with the team in February, next year in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

“We will support his brother Uzair for his cricketing career InshaAllah! We honoured his father too,” Javed maintained in his tweet.

Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi head Javed Afridi pledged support to Zubair Ahmed’s family, who was a cricketer in Mardan which is the part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

The owner of the reigning champions and Darren Sammy-led side stated he is raising the fund for the deceased family to allow them to cherish the dream they knitted for Zubair.

In August earlier this earlier, the aspiring cricketer Zubair dead on the spot when he was hit by a ball on the head during the practice session in Swabi which subsequently sent shockwaves across the globe, as many believed it’s important to wear the approved safety gears.

Moreover, Zalmi family has given a lot to the cricket while playing a vital role in providing a platform for the youngsters owing to the talent hunt drive which further saw the promising players were felicitated for their role in the recent past.

“Heart touching feelings, can’t express in words,” Javed concluded his tweet.

However, the teams retained nine players as the four-category drat allowed the different outfits to complete the 16-member squads respectively.

The draft was held on November 12 at National Cricket Academy in Lahore as team owners and coaches were observing the day-long activity.
