Starrcade returning to the WWE event list was a huge news for the fans. It was included as a special event to be hosted by the Smackdown Live brand. Just after Survivor Series PPV is over, the blue brand was supposed to reach the home ground of this iconic event which is Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina.
This particular event was the biggest one around the WCW promotion which was later brought by Vince McMahon at the beginning of this decade. Considering WCW’s popularity back then, Starrcade was quite similar to the Wrestlemania event conducted by the WWE. So, it was quite a bigger occasion while bringing it back to the WWE schedule WWE Universe was supposed to enjoy an extra event on the WWE Network.
But, making all the speculations wrong, Starrcade will not be broadcasted on the WWE Network. It means the special will remain to be a house show which can be enjoyed by only the fans in attendance on that night, whereas, the global audience will get deprived of it.
Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently weighed on the reason as to why the program was canceled from WWE network. According to him a number of reasons worked behind the pulling-off decision with the main reason being the additional cost that will have to be borne by the company.
The officials are considering it to be unnecessary and hence decided not to make it a telecasted program. Plus, this is not going to benefit them on a long-term basis. Also, since there is no such proper PPV feeling attached to the program, it will be unable to fetch more WWE Network subscribers, as well.
Lastly, big names have already been confirmed for the night which will help them to make the event a sell-out, quite easily. So, there’s no need to make it an extra event on the WWE Network. For now, the matches of the show are as follows:
WWE Championship Steel Cage Match
AJ Styles Vs Jinder Mahal
SmackDown Women’s Championship Steel Cage Match
North Carolina’s own Charlotte Flair Vs Natalya
