In the second session on day four in Wellington, Windies after the fight back was restricted at 319 in 106 overs, as hosts New Zealand won the first Test by an innings 67 runs to take an unassailable lead of 1-0 in the two-match series.

For Kane Williamson-led Windies, Matt Henry was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets in 24 overs, as he conceded 57 runs.

Moreover, Trent Boult followed by Colin de Grandhomme and Neil Wagner bagged two wickets each and left-arm orthodox spinner Mitchell Santner dismissed Kraigg Brathwaite.

For Windies, opener Brathwaite was the top-scorer with 91 off 221 balls. He smashed eight boundaries and a maximum.

Taking the team out of the trouble, Brathwaite was equally supported by top-order batsman Shimron Hetmyer.

At one stage, the Windies side was going decently at 231 in 77.4 overs, before the floodgates were opened following the Barbados-based Braithwaite’s wicket when he was trapped in front of the wickets by wily customer Santner.

Braithwaite alongside his opening partner Kieran Powell put up 72 runs for the first wicket in 18 overs.

The 27-year-old Nevis-born batsman Powell was the first man-to-go when he was caught and bowled by fast bowler Henry on 40 off 55 deliveries. His innings was comprised off five boundaries and two sixes.

For the second-wicket partnership, Braithwaite and Hetmyer shared crucial 94 runs as visitors lost the latter at the second innings total of 166 in 44.2 overs when Henry picked his wicket following the completion of a catch by Jeet Raval.

However, Shai Hope showed some resistance with the bat by facing 125 balls to score 37 runs which were not enough when he was dismissed by speedster Boult after Williamson completed a simple catch.

So much so, the Windies lost last seven wickets at 62 runs, as Roston Chase and debutant scored 18 runs each.

The 31-year-old Pretoria-born left-arm fast-bowler Neil Wagner was adjudged Man of the Match for his match figures of nine for 141 in 36.4 overs.

In second innings, Wagner conceded 102 runs after strangulating Windies batsman in the first innings with his career-best figures of 39 for seven in 14.4 overs.

Earlier, Windies was bundled out on 134 in 45.4 overs, as the Black Caps declared their first innings on 520 for nine in 148.4 overs.

For Kiwis side, gloveman Tom Blundell (107 off 180 balls) smashed a magnificent hundred alongside de Grandhomme (105 off 74 balls).
