There were total 63 T20Is played in 2017 and all of those finished with a result. Apart from those matches, there was also one more T20I which had been abandoned without a toss.

Records are made to be broken. In the year of 2017, few T20I records were newly recreated by the players or teams. Here we covered some major T20I records that are generated in 2017.

  1. (On 8th March)

i) Most consecutive T20I matches for a team

Previous Record Holder: Angelo Mathews (Sri Lanka) – featured in 55 consecutive T20I matches for Sri Lanka from 8th June 2009 to 30th July 2015.

Current Record Holder: Mohammad Shahzad (Afghanistan) ­– broke the record on 8th March 2017. Later, he played two more consecutive T20I matches for his team before missing out a T20I for Afghanistan. Mohammad Shahzad featured in 58 consecutive T20I matches for his team from 1st February 2010 to 12th March 2017.

 

ii) Most consecutive T20I victories for a team

Previous Record Holder: England 8 consecutive T20I victories from 6th May 2010 to 12th January 2011.

Current Record Holder: Afghanistan – broke the record on 8th March 2017. Later, they also won two more consecutive T20Is before facing a T20I defeat. Afghanistan clinched total 11 consecutive T20I victories from 27th March 2016 to 12th March 2017.

Most runs conceded in a T20I innings

Previous Record Holder: Kyle Abbott (South Africa)4-0-68-1 against West Indies at Johannesburg on 11th January 2015.

Current Record Holder: Barry McCarthy (Ireland)4-0-69-0 against Afghanistan at Greater Noida.

 

  1. (On 23rd June)

First T20I batsman to be dismissed through obstructive the field

Jason Roy (England) – against South Africa at Taunton. He became the first ever T20I batsman to be dismissed through obstructive the filed.

 

  1. (On 16th September)

Most no.of T20I sixes by a batsman in a calendar year

Previous Record Holder: Shane Watson (Australia) – total 28 sixes hit in 2012.

Current Record Holder: Evin Lewis (West Indies) – total 31 sixes hit in 2017.

 

  1. (On 10th October)

Most innings before first T20I duck

Previous Record Holder: Shoaib Malik (Pakistan) – played 40 T20I innings before scoring the first duck in T20I on 10th September 2012.

Current Record Holder: Virat Kohli (India) – played 47 T20I innings before scoring first T20I duck.

 

  1. (On 29th October)

*Fastest T20I century

Previous Record Holder: Richard Levi (South Africa) completed his T20I century in just 45 balls against New Zealand at Hamilton on 19th February 2012.

Current Record Holder: *David Miller (South Africa) completed his T20I century in just 35 balls against Bangladesh at Potchefstroom.

 

  1. (On 22nd December)

i) *Joint fastest T20I century

Record Holders: a) *David Miller (South Africa)completed his T20I century in just 35 balls against Bangladesh at Potchefstroom on 29th October 2017.

b) Rohit Sharma (India) completed his T20I century in just 35 balls against Sri Lanka at Indore on 22nd December 2017.

 

ii) Joint most sixes for a team in a T20I innings

Record Holders: a) West Indies – hit total 21 sixes against India at Lauderhill on 27th August 2016.

b) India – hit total 21 sixes against Sri Lanka at Indore on 22nd December 2017.

 

 

 iii) Most runs scored from fours and sixes by a team in a T20I innings

Previous Record Holder: Sri Lanka 186 runs (30 fours and 11 sixes) against Kenya at Johannesburg on 14th September 2007.

Current Record Holder: India 210 runs (21 fours and 21 sixes) against Sri Lanka at Indore.
