South African speedster Morne Morkel called time on his international career on the last day of the 4th and the final Test and the New Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. His career has been quite brilliant, to say the least. He has been one of the most competitive individuals and has always carried himself well. One of the nicest cricketers of the modern generation, Morkel on his day was capable was running through any batting line-up.
However, he played under the shadow of Dale Steyn for the most part of his career but did about his job in a silent manner. However, after his retirement, South Africa will surely feel the void left by the lanky speedster.

“It’s tough to put in words; emotional. It’s been a great journey. The mission was to beat the Aussies in the home turf. To accomplish that feels great. Thank you Vernon Philander. He was on the money today morning. We are going to celebrate hard today. Funny how things work out. The main thing is to keep working hard. Today, I’m saying goodbye to special players. There was no way I was sitting in the changing room. I am just happy I got through a couple of overs and got to enjoy the atmosphere for the last time. A special bunch of players – my brothers. I will miss them a lot. It’s been an unbelievable journey,” Morkel said at the post-match presentation following his retirement.
His career has been topsy-turvy but has always given his heart. He has never been short of efforts and bagged his 300th wicket in the previous test at the Port Elizabeth. However, his achievement has been overshadowed by the ball-tampering scandal in the previous Test.

Indian vice-captain in the limited overs format Rohit Sharma congratulated Morkel on a brilliant career and for being the person he is. Taking to the Twitter handle he wrote, Fought really really hard in his career, great competitor and the nicest human being. Wish you a happy retirement @mornemorkel65.
