Jason Roy scored an unbeaten 91 against Mumbai Indians to beat them by seven wickets.

We haven’t seen the foreign flyers get going in this years IPL. But Delhi Daredevils‘ opener Jason Roy announced his arrival in style.

Batting first, Mumbai Indians rode on Surya Kumar Yadav and Evin Lewis’ opening storm.

Yadav, who was promoted up the order in place of a rusty Rohit Sharma, found his groove. He made a 32-ball 53 while Lewis hit 28-ball 48.

An opening stand of 102 runs threatened to take the game away from Delhi. But spinner Tewatia struck twice to get the Daredevils back in the game. The hosts finished on 194/7 in their 20 overs.

Chasing a daunting task of 195 to win, Roy and Gambhir started off on a solid note. The English explosive opener smacked six sixes and as many fours while Gambhir kept rotating the strike. Rishabh Pant joined Roy after Gambhir went back to the hut. The duo pulled back things strongly and hardly looked in trouble.

Pant missed on a fifty by just three runs. He hit six boundaries and two sixes.

The game got a bit interesting towards the end when Roy hit Mustafizur Rahman for a four and followed it with a six but failed to connect the next three deliveries.

With one to get, Roy chipped the ball in the air and with no man in the outfield, Delhi sealed their first win of the season by seven wickets.

Roy made a comeback to the England national side early this year. He played good knocks against Australia in the limited-overs tournament this year.

“It’s been a while coming; I had a very tough year in 2017 … being dropped from the side and then being brought back into it towards the end of the year,” Roy had said after making a successful comeback for England.

“It kind of gave me a bit of a kick to recognise where I’m at, where my preparation is and start building up a platform to get ready for internationals. It has turned around incredibly quickly, that’s the nature of this game – especially in one-day and T20 cricket,” he added.
