The franchise is owned by the GMR Group.
The national capital-based outfit traditionally play their homes at the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi. They have also played some of their home games at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Chhattisgarh.
The Daredevils are one of the underachievers in the league. Despite boasting of a good team throughout, they have not managed to live up to expectations. They qualified for the now-defunct Champions League T20 twice, making the Finals in the 2012 edition. But apart from that they did not do much notable in the first ten seasons. Their performance in recent times have further deepened as they have ended up with wooden spoons.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”197057″ img_size=”full” css_animation=”none”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]
Promising initial years:
In the inaugural season, they finished fourth after the conclusion of the league stage. They won 7 of the 14 games they played to make it to the semifinal. In the semifinal, they were thrashed by Rajasthan Royals as their season came to an end.
They began the second season in 2009 in a dominating manner. Under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, they remained at the top of the table for much of the tournament. They won 10 of the 14 games to end the league stage at the top of the table. But despite being in red-hot form, they once again failed to cross the semifinal hurdle. In the semifinal, eventual winners Deccan Chargers blew away the Daredevils with their skipper Adam Gilchrist hitting a 17-ball fifty.
Two modest years:
In 2010, they failed to make it to the last four for the very first time. The Daredevils won 7 of their 14 games but lost out on the last four spot due to poor net run-rate.
Their performance in 2011 was even worse. They finished the tournament at the bottom, managing just 4 wins in 14 games.
Change in fortunes:
After two poor seasons, the Daredevils bounced back in style in 2012. They finished the league stage at the top of the table and ended up qualifying for the Champions League Twenty20 in 2012 held in South Africa.
The promising season in 2012 was not a precursor of the things that were to follow. I 2013, they finished at the rock bottom after winning just 3 games. Their fortunes remained pretty much same for the following four seasons as they ended sixth last year too.
The Daredevils play their home games in the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, New Delhi. They also play their home games at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium,Raipur.

The perennial underachievers of the league entered the auction with a purse of Rs 47 crore and ended up compiling a squad that truly has the ability to end the franchise’s long wait for the maiden title.
They had retained three players Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Chris Morris and then purchased 22 players to complete their roaster. Their most expensive buy was Australia’s hard-hitting batsman Glenn Maxwell at Rs 9 crore while South Africa pace sensation Kagiso Rabada [Rs 4.2 crore] who also represented them last season was the second on the list.
In addition, they re-signed their former skipper Gautam Gambhir who had represented them in the first three seasons. In Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Kalra, they bought two of the most sought after youngsters in the country. With the likes of Colin Munro, Jason Roy and Naman Ojha also in the squad, the Daredevils boast of a good batting lineup this season. The pace attack looks equally impressive due to the presence of Mohammed Shami, Kagiso Rabada and Trent Boult.
