Jason Roy’s debut in the IPL last year wasn’t quite desirable for the Englishmen, as he was made to bat down the order due to the star-studded top-order of Gujarat Lions, with the likes of Raina, McCullum, Finch and Smith handling the onslaught at the top of the order.
That said, he was brought into the XI by Gambhir at his desired position in place of the struggling Munro.
The move paid dividends for Delhi Daredevils, as he scored a fierce-some trademark Jason Roy-knock of 91 which came off just 53 balls at a strike rate of 171.

England’s limited-overs specialist smashed six boundaries and sixes in the innings, including the finishing blow off the last ball. His explosive knock helped Gautam Gambhir‘s men open their account on the points table.
Due to his entertaining knock, Jason Roy was adjudged as the man of the match.

“It was a good knock. We came together and showed what we are capable off. Also, we brought them back nicely and restricted them to a chasable total. It is a great place to bat and a great place to play cricket,” Roy told during the presentation.
“New ball skids on nicely and my intention was to play strong attacking shots. Just a little bit of nerves in the final overs, I made it harder than I should have. I am spending a lot of time playing spin in the nets and trying a way to score runs against spin,” concluded man of the match, Jason Roy.
