The skipper of Rajasthan Royals (RR), Ajinkya Rahane paid INR 12 lakh as a result of the franchise maintaining a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2018 game versus Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede stadium, on Sunday (May 13).
Meanwhile, the Royals defeated Mumbai convincingly by seven wickets to inch closer to the playoffs of the ongoing eleventh edition of the domestic professional Twenty20 league.
Batting first, Mumbai posted a moderate 168 runs after a brilliant opening stand. Suryakumar Yadav (38) and Evin Lewis (60) added 87 runs for the first wicket.
However, some brilliant bowling by the Royals in the middle-overs contained the free flow of runs. A late cameo from Hardik Pandya (36) ensured they cross the 150-run mark.
Meanwhile, in reply, Jos Buttler single-handedly won the game for the visitors. He remained unbeaten on 94 off just 53 balls including nine fours and five sixes to see his team through.
Rahane and Sanju Samson also provided good support to the Royals as they reached the target with 12 balls to spare.
As a result, Rajasthan jumps to the fifth spot with 12 points from 12 games.
Ajinkya Rahane penalised for slow over-rate:
Rahane breached IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to over-rate offences in the last game.
However, this is the first time he has committed this offence. As a result, he will have to pay a hefty fine and will not have to miss any game.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Rahane was fined INR 12 lakh,” an IPL press release revealed.
Previously, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper, Virat Kohli breached this conduct against Chennai Super Kings at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
