The next NXT Takeover event is set to happen at MITB weekend. WWE started to host special NXT shows during the big-four PPV events.
We have seen such shows before Wrestlemania, Summerslam, Survivor Series and Royal Rumble. WWE added an extra NXT Takeover event starting from last year onwards.
The MITB PPV event hosted the same in Chicago. The same schedule will take place in this year too. The upcoming NXT Takeover event will take place one night earlier to the gimmick-based PPV on June 16th. The championships present on the developmental territory will be on the line on this show.
The latest to the string of championship matches is the women’s title. The current title holder for the women’s division is none other than Shayna Baszler. She used to one of the members of MMA’s four horsewomen faction. NXT creative team gave her a strong title run till date.

The next challenge in line for her is Nikki Cross. We reported it earlier that Nikki did not make her debut on Smackdown with SAnitY for the same reason. The NXT roster needed her to be a solid opponent against Shayna. Hence she is getting the championship shot at the NXT Takeover: Chicago.
Nikki will challenge the current champion in a one-on-one capacity. No one on the NXT roster has been able to go under the skin of the current champion like her.
She delivered a sneak attack on Shayna after her title defence against Dakota Kai last week. The former SAnitY member was also able to lure her for a title match with Kairi Sane, the guest referee.

It was an unsanctioned match where Nikki incidentally pinned the champion. She went home with the belt with her even if she is not the actual champion. The officials gave back the title to Shayna later. But this win earned her the opportunity to campaign for a championship match.
WWE officially announced her chance on the NXT Takeover: Chicago event. It should be a solid match between these two talented wrestlers.
Shayna is a powerhouse performer where Nikki made a name for herself as a technical wrestler. This upcoming match should turn out to be the biggest threat for the champion till date.
