The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to conduct fitness tests before team selection. It is done to avoid embarrassing situations for the selected players on the field later on. Recently, three Indian players were shown the exit doors after they had failed to clear the Yo-Yo Test.
Yo-Yo test is mandatory
Firstly, Mohammad Shami failed to score the passing score on the fitness test for Afghanistan Test. Secondly, talented Sanju Samson also didn’t succeed in clearing the test for India A tour of England. Subsequently, Ambati Rayudu was also left out because of the same reason.

BCCI has taken the step in the right direction.
Thus, it makes all the sense to conduct the mandatory Yo-Yo test before the national team selection.
Consequently, the issue got discussed in the latest Committee of Administrators meeting. Chairman Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji, BCCI CEO Rahul Johri and Saba Karim were part of the discussion.
“Going forward, players will be picked after they pass the fitness test. The players gave the fitness test after being picked for the UK tour because of the IPL. It puts the players in an awkward situation and it will not be repeated,” a BCCI official said as per PTI.
There seems to be some a miss communication between the Indian team management and BCCI. It is also reported that the players were informed about the fitness test after their selection.

Thus, to avoid further confusion, the Indian board has taken its step in the right direction.
Meanwhile, Navdeep Saini had replaced Mohammed Shami. However, the Delhi fast bowler didn’t make it into the playing XI against Afghanistan.
Ishan Kishan was named as the replacement for Sanju Samson while Suresh Raina replaced his Chennai Super Kings teammate Ambati Rayudu.
