An injury scare broke out around Jeff Hardy in June. He was on a winning streak after picking up the United States Championship following Wrestlemania.
This was the beginning of brighter days for him, as WWE made him a Grand Slam Champion. It is one of rarest accolades earned by a WWE superstar.
But for some reasons, Jeff Hardy could not capitalise on this championship run. A mysterious injury was amongst those that sidelined him for in-ring competition. He missed many TV tapings due to this around May-June. WWE did not insert him in any storyline angles too owing to this. Later, Nakamura took the title away at Extreme Rules PPV.
It was not a good sign for a strong champion like him. Reports suggested the Charismatic Enigma might be suffering from a slight nerve injury which is why TV appearances were not possible for him. But he continued appearing on house shows or dark matches on Smackdown Live that hinted the concussion was not major.
Recently, Jeff Hardy opened up on this issue clarifying the injury. Canton Repository had a conversation with him and asked about the same. He confirmed this was a back injury that was bothering him a lot. It is also the same reason which is why he stopped performing the Swanton Bomb in live events.
It is okay to hit it on TV episodes of Smackdown since it’s just once in a week. But he could not hit it on a regular basis during the untelevised matches throughout a week,
“I’ve been really lucky, and naturally on TV I always want to go all out, but in the live events, I might have to hold back a little. I’m glad my face paint has come back. That’s always fun for people to see, because it’s original and unique each and every night, and I love doing that. Growing up I was a huge fan of Ultimate Warrior and Sting, and I wanted to be a little bit of both of them.”
Jeff Hardy also pointed out that his body is not that much capable of doing things like earlier days. It’s quite certain considering he is 40 plus nowadays and had already spent over two decades around the pro-wrestling circuit,
“Your guess is as good as mine. I think it has to do with hope, faith and a lot of luck. Matt always says, ‘It’s just incredible. You’re one of these guys that do this insane stuff, and here you are 40 years into your life still giving them a little bit of that.’ The toll has been rough at times.”
A car accident also bothered him a bit around the Wrestlemania season. The police have found him guilty after his car thrashed another one. But thankfully that did not cause any harm of the career of this high-flying superstar on Smackdown Live.
