Former Indian cricketer Dilip Doshi was highly impressed with the touring Indian team at Trent Bridge. Virat Kohli and his men are very close to a sensational win. England have been tasked to chase a daunting target of over 500 runs and their 2-0 lead looks certain to get affected.

Doshi praised Ravichandran Ashwin’s performance with the ball. “I am very happy that he has understood the importance of his stock ball- the off-break.” He said that for a spinner 98% of the deliveries should be a stock ball and that Ashwin was bothering a little too much with his variation.

The former spinner also said that Ashwin is a much-improved bowler now and will certainly play a big part in the second innings if he stays fit.

Doshi backs Jadeja over Kuldeep Yadav

While discussing spin, India’s youngster Kuldeep Yadav too came under the spotlight. Doshi feels the U.P spinner is still very young for Test cricket. He also pointed out that Kuldeep is very slow through the air. Doshi feels it’s still fine while playing the T20Is or the ODIs but for Test cricket, that particular aspect needs to be addressed. “He is still very raw for test cricket” the former tweaker said. Interestingly, he backs Ravindra Jadeja to play the next Test. With Jadeja’s pace not being a problem and DRS on offer, he can bag a few sticks.

Doshi on the lack of quality in spinners

“He is quite good you see, he bowls steady and straight and with DRS there, you get a lot more leg-before. I would love to see him play the next Test match” Doshi told TOI. Thr former Bengal captain said that the quality of spin bowling has come down drastically. He added that many of the current lot at the international level wouldn’t have got the nod back in the 1970s and 80s.
