A rather comical news which came to the fore after the conclusion of the India-South Africa test series was that Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan was reported for a suspect bowling action. Dhawan was reported by the on-field umpires, who thought that the off-spinner bowled with a suspect action and bent his arm more than the permissible limit.
A source within the BCCI recently suggested that Dhawan will not opt for a bowling test, and will rather refrain from bowling. If Dhawan does not test his action, he will not be eligible to bowl in international cricket. The official said that since Dhawan rarely bowls, it wouldn’t make a difference if he is not eligible to bowl.
“Dhawan’s forte is not his bowling and the Indian team will not miss anything if he does not bowl his off-breaks. Why does he need to go to Chennai for action correction? There is a possibility that he might not ever bowl in a competitive match in near or distant future,” a senior BCCI official was quoted saying by PTI.
Dhawan, in another news, was present along with test skipper Virat Kohli, and batsman Ajinkya Rahane in Mumbai for the launch of the ICC World T20 2016.
