Manchester City’s star striker Sergio Aguero has claimed that he used to idolise former Liverpool striker Michael Owen growing up as he likened his short stance to that of the former England international, according to a report from Daily Mail.

The Argentine like his compatriot Messi in La Liga  has long been regarded as one of the best strikers that Premier League have seen as he continues to mesmerise football fans and pundits with his lethal instincts in front of goal.

Being an Argentina international, Sergio Aguero had a hand full of football greats to look up to when he grew up, including Diego Maradona, Gabriel Batistuta and Hernan Crespo.

Yet Aguero confirms he was always a hardcore fan of the standard Premier League football presents, and when he was in his boyhood, former Liverpool striker Michael Owen was the player then making all the noises.

“I always liked the Premier League, as a kid. I used to like Liverpool because I liked Michael Owen. He was pretty small so I used to identify with him when I was seven or eight,” Aguero explained, according to the Daily Mail.

“Playing in the Premier League was always something that I’d wanted to do,” he further said.

“Now that I’m here I reckon, right now, the Premier League is better than not just the Spanish league but probably any other league in the world!”

The 27-year-old marksman has found the net nine times in 12 appearances in all competitions this term with his goal against Liverpool in a 4-1 shocking home defeat making him the top-scoring South American in Premier League history with 85 to his name playing 129 matches for Manchester City, a simply outstanding scoring record.

Michael Owen managed to score over hundred goals for Liverpool, netting 118 in 216 Premier League matches with the Englishman’s biggest impact being the two-goal haul against Arsenal in the 2001 FA Cup final.

On the international stage, the former Liverpool hitman scored 40 goals playing 89 matches with his stunning goal against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup capturing the headlines worldwide.

To surpass Owen’s achievements it would surely take some doing, but Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has arguably already topped his boyhood idol by winning two Premier League titles with the Citizens.
