Virat Kohli has been absolute revelation as skipper since taking the captaincy towards the end of the tour of Australia in 2014. There were apprehensions all over when he replaced the legendary MS Dhoni, India’s most decorated skipper till date. However, Kohli has done a commendable job so far and is looking primed to create his own legacy as a skipper.
He is already on the brink on achieving a series-win that no other Indian captain managed in the past – a Test series win in Australia. The Kohli-led side thrashed the hosts by 137 runs in the third Test to go two-one up in the four-match series. And Kohli now needs just a draw in the last game at the Sydney Cricket Ground to lead India to a historic triumph.

However, if he manages to lead his high-flying team to a win in Sydney, he will create a record that no other Indian captain achieved in the country’s 76-year old Test history. Another win in this series will make Kohli the first-ever Indian captain to win two overseas Test series with three wins in each of the competitions. The 30-year old had led India to a 3-0 Test series win against Sri Lanka in 2017. India played their first Test match against England in June 1932.
Not only that, he will also become the second Indian captain to win three Tests in a series outside Asia. The first and only Indian captain to achieve this feat is Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, who won 3-1 in New Zealand in 1967-68.
Kohli will also surpass Sourav Ganguly’s record for the most Test wins away from home with a win in Sydney. The Indian skipper has led India to 11 away wins in 24 games so far. Kohli will also become the most successful Asian captain with three wins in Australia. Bishan Singh Bedi and Mushtaq Mohammad are the other two Asian captains with two wins in Australia.
