In a late-night development, Goa police arrested former EPL star Elano Blumer, now captain of ISL champion side Chennaiyin FC, for allegedly assaulting Dattaraj Salgaoncar, co-owner of FC Goa team during the post-match celebrations on Sunday. However, he was later released on bail.

The 34-year-old Brazilian played for Manchester City from 2007 to 2009 after City signed him for £8 million from Shakhtar Donetsk. During his stint in EPL he scored 14 in 62 appearances before joining Turkish club Galatasaray in 2009.

“Salgaoncar has formally lodged a complaint with us and we have placed Elano under arrest,” When speaking to the reporters, Margao police inspector CL Patil confirmed the incident at midnight. The brawl happened when celebrations were all around the ground following Chennaiyin FC’s win over FC Goa in the final of the Indian Super League season 2.

Srinivas Dempo, the second co-owner of Goa, who was also there when the incident took place, revealed Elano suddenly came out of the team dugout and started making fun of FC Goa players. The situation became worse when Salgaocar questioned him about his behaviour and Elano assaulted him.

“We are inquiring into the incident. The formal complaint is lodged based on which the FIR is filed,” Margao police inspector Patil said.

The winning captain was charged under section 341 (wrongful restrain), 323 (causing hurt) and 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace).

Earlier in the evening, after a close encounter FC Goa lost to Chennaiyin much to the dismay of thousands of Goa football fans who were present at the stadium to support the home team.
