The visiting side England snatched a brilliant victory against the host Windies in the high-scoring first ODI at Kensington Oval (Bridgetown, Barbados). With this victory, England has taken the 1-0 lead in the five-match ODI series with four to go.

Windies captain Jason Holder decided to bat first after winning the toss. The host side Windies scored 360/8, thanks to Chris Gayle’s 135 and Shai Hope’s 64. With the help of two-century innings, England successfully chased down that target in 48.4 overs after losing four wickets.

  • Chris Gayle hits the most number of sixes in international cricket history. During this game, he surpassed Shahid Afridi (Pakistan/Asia XI/ICC World XI) who had hit 476 sixes in his international career.

  • It is the highest ODI Individual score by a Windies batsman against England on the Caribbean soil. The previous record was 128 by Denesh Ramdin at North Sound on 5 March 2014.

  • It was the second most expensive ODI bowling figures for an English bowler against Windies. The record holder is Jake Ball with the bowling figures of 10-1-94-1 at Southampton on 29 September 2017.

Also, in the same latest ODI, Windies bowlers Oshane Thomas and Ashley Nurse had the bowling figures of 9-0-72-1 and 10-0-69-0 respectively. These two are in the third and fourth positions of the most expensive ODI bowling figures for Windies against England on the Caribbean soil.
  • It was the second most expensive ODI bowling figures for a Windies spinner. The record is 10-0-79-0 by Sulieman Benn against South Africa at Sydney on 27 February 2015.
