In a major breakthrough for the Iceland Cricket, their star spinner Kató Jónsson has sweated out in the trails for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). So far, in the IPL 2019, Punjab had a mixed show at the league stage.
The Nordic-based cricketer has a stock delivery in the form of backspinner or the fíflið.
It’s has been known that he has impressed KXIP head coach Mike Hesson during the trials amid the ongoing twelfth edition of the IPL.
Following his extraordinary efforts, Jónsson has weaved a dream to play in the celebrated leagues before setting his sights on the top-flight cricket.
Given the successful trials, Jónsson has the potential to become first-ever Iceland cricketer to feature in the cash-rich IPL.
Besides, he has recently trained alongside the KXIP team led by Ravichandran Ashwin.

On the other side, KXIP has already availed the services of Afghanistan teenage spin sensation Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
According to the KXIP CEO Satish Menon, he believes IPL has produced star players and providing a platform to such rare talent is a testament for all to look at what actually IPL has promoted.
Menon added it would be a historic moment for Iceland in itself after the recognition of mystery bowler like Jónsson.
“This is what the IPL is all about. This proves that cricket is truly a global sport that knows no boundaries. To have a cricketer from Iceland in the league would be historic. Plus, a testament to our belief that opportunity doesn’t discriminate,” Menon told KXIP digital.
Back in Europe, ecstatic Jónsson has delivered for his team. Also, he has often used fingers to drop the pace of the ball. It subsequently makes it tougher for the batsmen to play shots.
“It’s unbelievable! From watching the on my computer to possibly becoming the first Nordic player to play in it is beyond my wildest dreams. I’m ready and can’t wait to get started,” said Jónsson.
Meanwhile, KXIP is concurrently facing Delhi Capitals (DC) in their overall fourth match of the IPL 2019 at Mohali.
