Jammu and Kashmir National Congress President Omar Abdullah has slammed former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir for his recent remarks on Kashmir. With the 2019 General Election ringing the alarm clock, all the parties have begun their campaigning and Jammu, and Kashmir has once again become the point of debate.

Gautam Gambhir, who joined the BJP last month, had posted tweets mocking the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister for his comments on Monday warning that the demand for a  separate ‘Wazir-e-Azam‘ (Prime Minister) and “Sadr-e-Riyasat” (President) for his state would be back on the table if there were attempts to tinker with Article 35A. Meanwhile, the article empowers the state to decide who are permanent residents and can have special land ownership in the state. Gambhir, who recently joined politics after announcing his retirement for cricket last year is looking for some political mileage ahead of the election, and it looks like he has targeted J&K  to garner his vote banks.

Abdullah hits back at Gambhir

However, the sarcastic comments didn’t go well with Omar Abdullah who came back with a pungent reply. He asked Gautam Gambhir to stick on cricket and do what he knows the best. Abdullah also critiqued Gambhir for making baseless comments without the history of Jammu and Kashmir and the role of Jammu and Kashmir National Congress in shaping the history of beautiful land. J&K has witnessed a massive rise in militancy in the last five years, and repressive policies on the citizens have also increased manifolds.

Gautam,I never played much cricket because I knew I wasn’t very good at it. You don’t know very much about J&K,it’s history or the role of @jknc_ in shaping that history yet you insist on displaying that ignorance for all to see. Stick to stuff you know about, tweet about the IPL,” Abdullah slammed back at Gambhir.

Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir is likely to contest election from BJP’s ticket in Delhi. However, the former cricketer has been one of the best in the business during his playing days. He played a crucial part in the finals of 2011 ICC World Cup which gave India the trophy after 28 long years. He also has led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to two Indian Premier League (IPL) titles before shifting his base to Delhi and ultimately announcing his retirement.
