The Polish striker has been in lethal form ever since he signed for the Bundesliga champions and is one of the most sought after strikers in Europe with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain actively pursuing the former Borussia Dortmund attacker.

But after Lewandowski admitted that he was “flattered” by PSG’s interest Bayern Rummenigge wasted no time to say that Bayern Munich are interested in Higuain perhaps to warn Lewandowski that he is not unsellable. All this has put question marks over his future and his agent is busy answering those questions.

Lewandowski, who has scored 15 times in the Bundesliga so far this season and has a contract at the Allianz Arena until 2019. However, after Franz Beckenbauer revealed this week that the 27-year-old has been “mentioned as a possible candidate” for Real Madrid the end of the season, his agent Cezary Kucharski has admitted he could not guarantee Lewandowski would stay in Germany.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Kucharski said “We’re very happy at Bayern Munich. We’ll see what happens in the future, but I cannot tell you anymore,” “For me, he’s the best number nine in the world. Everyone knows the price of the best players in their position, but I can’t give you a figure.

He insisted that Bayern have no intention to sell their star frontman “I don’t think Bayern want to sell him and I don’t want to talk about his price, especially since the championship starts again in Germany on Friday.

But did not completely rule out a move away from the Bavarians.

“In football, you can never know what will happen. The most important thing is that he fights for the Champions League.”

L’Equipe have reported that Kucharski first met officials from PSG in September to discuss a potential transfer which could be worth up to €100m but when asked whether they had been in touch, Kucharski added: “No comment. It’s better not to say anything about it.”

Talking about Rummenigge and Higuain his agent said : The best clubs need the best strikers and Higuain is a great striker. It does not surprise me that Rummenigge spoke of him. Like other major European clubs talk about Lewandowski.

Kucharski also said that he had a meeting with Rummenigge next week but stopped short of saying what that was about. Kucharski’s comments may just be a means to get Lewandowski a hefty pay rise but it does seem that there is something going on behind the scenes.

Manchester United and Lewandowski would be an ideal match. Manchester United are looking for a striker who can score goals left, right and centre and who better than Lewandowski to do that? Plus we all know of Woodward’s fascination with unrealistic signings. Manchester United were linked with moves for Neymar, Sergio Ramos, Gareth Bale and Thomas Muller in the previous windows and it is not a surprise that they ended up paying over €50m for a 19-year-old. Maybe this time it would be better for Woodward and Manchester United to pursue a more gettable player and by the looks of it Lewandowski seems gettable.
