India defeated Australia by 37 runs in the first of the three-match T20I series in Australia. On the back of it, former India opener Sunil Gavaskar has already honoured India with the title of “favourites”.
Speaking to an Indian news channel on post match analysis, Gavaskar opined: “India certainly looking good ahead of World T20 and the team is shaping up nicely. They look like the favourites to win the tournament.”
On dynamic Virat Kohli, who played a match-winning 90 run knock, ex-India skipper said: “He is looking like a batsman from another planet. Kohli is making batting look so simple. Bowlers don’t know how to stop a man who is in such great touch.”
Meanwhile, he was critical of India’s senior bowlers and advised them to take a leaf out of Bumrah’s book. Sunil Gavaskar on Indian bowlers was direct, he said: “His action is a help. Batsmen will take the time to get used to his action. He is bowling the yorkers and he is not bowling the length to hit. He did that in the Sydney game and that is why India could control Australia. My advice to the senior bowlers would be to learn from Bumrah and see how he is bowling,”
Meanwhile, analysing the match Gavaskar said that Indian spinners were the difference between the two teams. “Spinners were bowling great lines and angles. They got the length right as well. A good length ball can be lofted. An adjustment of foot and a half made the difference. Ashwin went around the wicket and made it difficult for the batsmen to score. The support staff and the bowling coach should be complimented,” Mumbaikar stated.,
Earlier on India’s Republic day, Indian women created history by beating their Aussie counterpart while chasing their personal best of 141 runs. Gavaskar praised Indian eves.
The legendary opener was quoted as saying: “The Indian girls must have inspired our men in Adelaide by beating Aussies. It has been a great gift to the nation on Republic Day,” said Gavaskar.
