The mystery spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman from Afghanistan is having a terrible run in the IPL 2019. The 18-year-old spinner has flourished while making his debut in the eleventh edition of the IPL for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), following a spectacular entry in the money-spinning league; Rahman has turned out to be dismal with the ball in hand, so far, with his bowling average reading 63.66.

With a loss 45-run against SRH, Punjab following a decent start is faltering, of late. They have now lost three consecutive matches.

The exciting spinner has bagged an unwanted record after receiving a battering from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) batters. While experiencing a horrible night on Monday (April 29), Rahman conceded 66 runs off his four overs.

While bearing the brunt, Rahman has marked the worst bowling figures for this season. In the first two overs, Rahman conceded 28 runs before giving away 38 runs in next 12 deliveries. On the expensive list, he has equalled Ishant Sharma, who plays for Delhi Capitals (DC).

The lanky pacer conceded 66 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2013. Back then, he represented the one-time IPL champions SRh.

Well, it was visible when in-form David Warner hit him all-around the park before Rahman’s Afghanistan teammate Mohammad Nabi tonked him for a couple. In 2018, Rahman scalped 17 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 20.64.

By going to these figures, he has become the most expensive overseas bowler in terms of giving away most runs.

Basil Thampi, who represented SRH, is the most expensive bowler in IPL history. He conceded 70 runs against the RCB in 2018.

Earlier, Australian Michael Neser, who represented KXIP held an unwanted record in 2013 when he conceding 62 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

However, the batsmen seemingly have now worked on his game plan, to pick his variations to perfection. But this year, Rahman has looked opposite to it.

In five matches, he managed to pick three wickets which included two for 31.

Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin asked SRH to bat first at home, and in response, Warner slammed 56-ball 81. The contribution from Manish Pandey and Nabi at the fag end of innings saw hosting set the target of 213 for KXIP.

But the visitors couldn’t do much except KL Rahul, who recorded a fine half-century. The guests could post 167 for eight in 20 overs. Thus, they lost the game by 45 runs. With a recent victory, SRH has somewhat improved their playoffs chances.

KXIP will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KXIP) on May 3.
