Caribbean Premier League (CPL) team Guyana Amazon Warriors has signed the Caribbean youngster Nicholas Pooran as the Marquee Player for the upcoming CPL season.

The 23-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran has recently impressed with his batting performances. After making his international cricket debut in September 2016, Pooran has played 11 T20Is and one ODI for Windies. In T20I career, the left-handed batsman has scored 218 runs with an average of 24.22 and strike-rate of 140.64. He has scored two half-centuries in T20I career, including his best innings of 58 runs (against England at Gros Islet on 5th March 2019).

Pooran is in the 15-member Team Windies squad for the upcoming 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The youngster made his ODI debut in last February against England at Bridgetown where he scored a duck.

Recently, Pooran played his maiden IPL season in IPL 2019. He played for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in IPL 2019 who finished in the sixth position in the points table. The left-handed batsman scored 168 runs in six innings with an average of 28.00 and strike-rate of 157.00. He scored two 40s in this IPL season.

In CPL career, Trinidad and Tobago cricketer Nicholas Pooran previously played for Barbados Tridents (2016-2018). However, he made his CPL debut for Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel where he played in 2013 and 2014 season.

Guyana Amazon Warriors are feeling excited with Nicholas Pooran’s joining. This side was the runners-up in the last CPL season.

Brief details of CPL 2019

The 2019 CPL Players Draft will take place on 22 May 2019 at the Gfinity eSports Arena in London.

Meanwhile, the 2019 CPL will run from 4th September to 12th October 2019. Initially, it’s opening date was 21st August 2019.  But the organisers pushed back the opening date to avoid clashing with India’s tour of West Indies 2019.

In the upcoming seventh season of CPL, six teams will participate. These teams are Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, St Lucia Stars, Trinbago Knight Riders. Three-time CPL champions Trinbago Knight Riders will play the upcoming season as the defending champions.
