In January Victor Valdes’ Manchester United sojourn ended as he sealed a loan move away from Old Trafford. Manchester United had signed him on a free after his contract with Barcelona had ended and a deal that showed a lot of promise turned out to be a nightmare for all parties.
Victor Valdes fell out of favour with Louis Van Gaal and was made to train away alone from the first team. But, Valdes has found a new club for himself – Belgian side Standard Liege and the Spaniard has revealed that it was a Manchester United player who helped him seal the move.
He has been speaking to the Derniere Heure this week – when he revealed the player at United who helped him decide upon a move to Liege.
No, it was not former Standard midfielder and Belgium international Marouane Fellaini, as he did not get a chance to speak to him, but rather 16-year-old Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui who convinced him to head to Belgium. “I didn’t have time to talk to [Fellaini] because I left really quickly.
“We’ll contact each other to talk about the club and the city that he knows very well.
“On the other hand, I had a discussion with Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui, a young Manchester United keeper who came from Standard and who told me that it was a big club and that I’d feel good here. He wasn’t mistaken.”
Moutha-Sebtaoui signed for United on a three-year deal in May last year and is yet another top talent out of Belgium. Valdes would be hoping that his loan move at Standard Liege turns into a permanent one and that he doesn’t have to come back to Old Trafford once again where he did not have the most memorable time.
