Australian spinner Adam Zampa is under the firing line for possible tampering of the cricket ball. The Indian team got off to a flying start against the defending champions at The Oval. The opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma put on a 100-plus run stand to pave the way for the men in blue.

The likes of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins were ineffective as the Indians called the shots with lusty strokes. Skipper Aaron Finch tried his luck with his main spinner-Zampa, but it hardly made any impact. India are currently on 220/2 in the 38th over and Zampa’s figures read- 0/40 from five overs.

Fans have questioned Zampa’s tactics as it looks suspicious every time the spinner put his hand inside his pocket before getting onto his delivery stride. While many stated that it could well be an attempt to tamper with the ball, there isn’t much clarity on the incident thus far.

This is not the only time when the leggie found himself in trouble. He was reprimanded by the ICC after the cricketer allegedly made audible obscenity during Australia’s game against Windies. Windies went on to lose the game by a narrow margin.

Zampa sparks tampering calls

If Zampa is found guilty, it could be yet another blot on Australian cricket. Last year, former skipper Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft were handed suspensions after found guilty of tampering with the ball during the Cape Town Test match against South Africa.

The duo-Smith and Warner served their respective bans and made a successful return in the side. There was uncanny reverse swing on offer for the Aussies during several Test matches last year and that had raised the eyebrows after the footages were captured by the broadcasters in South Africa.
