International Cricket Council (ICC) have reprimanded West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during their game against India at the Old Trafford in Manchester. The team from the Caribbean Island bowed out of the tournament following their 125-run defeat against India in a must-win game at Manchester.
Brathwaite reprimanded for showing dissent
West Indies bowlers did an outstanding job to restrict India for 268 runs. Virat Kohli scored another half-century before they bounced back in the middle overs. But some good show from MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya after slow start helped them post a challenging total on the board. Things looked comfortable from the West Indies perspective at the break, but Mohammed Shami used his opportunities to great effect to change the course of the game. He removed Chris Gayle and Shai Hope within seven overs to nullify the advantage West Indies at the end of India’s innings. The spinners and Jasprit Bumrah dominated the middle overs before Shami came back to finish things off in style.

The day turned out to even worse for West Indies as all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite attracted a fine for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision. Brathwaite breached article 2.8 of the code. The article relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match.” Meanwhile, the incident occurred during the 42nd over of India’s innings when he protested a decision from Hardik Pandya.
Brathwaite admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Chris Broad. The match referee gave one demerit points to Carlos Brathwaite. The all-rounder had earlier earned one demerit point in this World Cup during the game against England on June 14.
