Soon, the Indian national cricket team will tour of West Indies to play the international bilateral series. While some regular Indian players are likely to take rest from this tour, the national selectors will look on the talented youngsters for this tour. The 24-year-old Shreyas Iyer believes that he deserves a chance in the national team.

After the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, India’s first assignment will be the West Indies and USA tour. In this tour, India will play a three-match bilateral T20I series, three-match bilateral ODI series and two-match bilateral Test series against Windies from 3rd August to 3rd September.

At present, Shreyas Iyer is busy in the Caribbean tour where he is serving for India A.

Talking about his maiden Caribbean experience, Iyer told bcci.tv, “This is going to be the first time I am going to the West Indies. It’s going to be a good experience for me. The wickets are bit like Indian tracks, the bowlers are going to be challenging there as well.”

Iyer has claimed that he performs better under pressure.

He said, “Hope to be under pressure because I can score more under pressure. I tend to score more when I am under the pump.”

Mumbai cricketer Shreyas Iyer feels that he deserves a chance to play for the national team. He further added that his recent performances for India A should be counted in the upcoming selection matter.

Iyer claimed, “I deserve a chance in the Indian team. My performances in the ‘A’ series should count. My goal is to be better than the previous season, I want to grow as an individual and become more mature as a player. I want try bat till the end.”

Iyer spoke about Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma

Shreyas Iyer has been amazed by the Indian captain Virat Kohli‘s hunger in batting and the former Indian captain MS Dhoni‘s calm and composed attitude in the pressure situations.

He added, “Rohit obviously is very talented. He’s got so much time when he plays, makes batting look easy. He is someone who is totally different from other batsman. The best seat to watch him bat is from the non-strikers end, right now takes his time. He structures his innings well. If I get all three aspects it will be very helpful for me.”

Shreyas Iyer made his international debut in November 2017. He has played six ODIs and six T20Is for India where he has scored 210 runs (average 42.00) and 83 runs (average 16.60) respectively.
