Venkatesh Prasad worked in various roles for India:

Prasad’s coaching CV also includes stints as bowling coach for Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab in the IPL. The 49-year-old was also head of the BCCI’s All-India Junior Selection Panel for three years, ending his tenure in 2018.

However, Bharat Arun looks the likely candidate to seal the job once again. If those reports are to be believed, Arun could turn out to be a unanimous choice considering the performance of India’s pacers in all formats of the game.

In the last 18 to 20 months, the work put in by Arun has been phenomenal. The current Indian attack is considered to be the best in the longest format. Mohammed Shami back at his best and Jasprit Bumrah’s consistency are a few things Arun must get credit for. The selectors might find it difficult to replace him.

The BCCI is slated to review the applications from August 13. As per the BCCI’s new constitution, the post will be picked by the Cricket Advisory Committee. It comprises World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev, former head coach Anshuman Gaekwad and women’s team captain Shantha Rangaswamy.

Meanwhile, the national selection panel will conduct the interviews of the support staff applicants. Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Venkatesh Prasad. For now, the support staff handed a 45-day extension post the World Cup.
