Number 4 position in the Indian National Cricket Team has been a problem, which is haunting for a long time. They tried quite a few players at that slot but unfortunately, they never got the solution. In between, Ajinkya Rahane wishes to play at number 4 for India, who cited it as his favourite position.

After the axe of Yuvraj Singh, Rahane was entrusted with the number four duty. When Rahane scored 79 in the first ODI against South Africa in January 2018, it looked as if he is there to stay.

But scores of 11, 8, 8, and 34* in the next four innings ended his stay in the middle order and he hasn’t played in the blues since. Not only he lost the middle order spot, but he was also refused out as the backup opener.

Nonetheless, his performance in the 2015 World Cup at no. 4 position was praiseworthy and full of elegance. In 25 innings, Rahane has scored 843 runs at an average of 36.65 at no. 4 spots in the batting line-up. Besides that, he can be used as a floater.

Number 4 is my favourite – Ajinkya Rahane

Speaking at the Cricket Association of Bengal’s (CAB) annual awards ceremony at the Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata, Ajinkya Rahane addressed himself at the start by saying that his favourite position is number 4 and also his sequence number is number 4.

“Incidentally, my number (sequence in the prize distribution) here is four… I really enjoy batting at No 4. That’s my favourite position.

Important to give my best –

Further, he spoke on the upcoming tour of West Indies. The flamboyant batsman doesn’t want to take them lightly and would like to return India with a trophy in their kitty. Ajinkya Rahane would also like to give his best for the team.

”We all know they are a dangerous and unpredictable team. I’m really looking forward to the series against the West Indies. For me, it’s important to give my best. I always focus on contributing to my team and I think I’m just going to do my best as well. Once I go there, I will give my 100 per cent,” he said.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out. Ajinkya Rahane has always been the best performer for India in overseas and he would like to make the tag stronger with the upcoming series.
