India won across all the formats against West Indies. It was a great win for India. But there are some points where India needs to ponder upon. The opening batsmen in Test match were not profitable for India. Former captain Sourav Ganguly in his column for Times of India wrote that this opportunity can open the door for Rohit Sharma.
“I had suggested earlier about trying Rohit Sharma as an opener in Test cricket and I still believe that he needs to be given an opportunity because he is too good a player to be left out in the cold,” Sourav Ganguly wrote in his column for The Times of India.
According to him, finding for middle-order batsmen have come to an end after Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari‘s performances in Test. He believes that Rohit will also be waiting to play in a Test match.

“After a fantastic World Cup, I believe he will be itching to grab the opportunity to open in Tests. With Ajinkya Rahane and Hanuma Vihari settling in nicely, there is not much left to play around in the middle order,” he further added.
Sourav Ganguly opines Mayank is good

Sourav suggested that India needs to find a good opener as Mayank Agarwal has given satisfactory performance. But the position of KL Rahul is to be filled.
“The opening still remains an area to work on. Mayank Agarwal looks good but will need a few more opportunities. His partner KL Rahul, though, has flattered to deceive and that creates an opening at the top,” Sourav Ganguly said.
In a first Test match, KL Rahul scored 44 and 38 but was not able to convert those starts, and in the second Test match, it went down to 13 and 6. He is being criticised for his batting technique in the Test matches. KL Rahul has been given the chance in the upcoming South Africa T20I series at home. This could be the last chance for him if he doesn’t perform well.
