The fifteen-year-old Shafali Verma became the youngest Indian to play in T20I. The right-hand batswoman from Haryana gets a maiden call up from Indian women’s national cricket team. She played the first T20I against South Africa women’s team in Surat and registered the record of the youngest Indian (men and women) to play in T20I.

Shafali came into limelight after her power-packed performance in May 2019 in Women’s T20 Challenge. In Velocity team, the player was unbeatable as she hit the boundaries easily. Also in the interstate T20 tournament, she hit 186 runs in six innings at the strike rate of 187.87. Her highest score was 128 off 56 balls against Nagaland. She proved that she can face higher quality of ball and this marked her way to the Indian women’s cricket team.

Smriti Mandhana – 16 Years, 261 Days

Though the young uncapped player didn’t make a good start in her debut. She was out without scoring runs after facing four balls. The South African player Sekhukhune took a stunning catch of Shafali. Shafali had a bad day in fielding also as she missed a catch too. Overall, Shafali is the second-youngest player to make his debut in Indian women’s cricket team history.

India lost the wickets regularly and set a low target of 131 runs. But with the help of bowlers, India won the match by 11 runs and is up by 1-0 in five-match T20I series. India is also scheduled with three ODIs against South Africa women’s team which will start from 9th October in Vadodra.
