The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 brought some major points in the limelight to ponder upon. In the whole mega event, the Indian team was struggling for no.4 batting position and there were no solutions. The other decision which was a lot criticised was to send MS Dhoni to bat on No.7 in the semifinal against New Zealand.

India had a great journey in the World Cup this year. The team were looking promising to bring back the World Cup trophy but the semifinal against New Zealand was upsetting. Indian bowlers bowled very well as they halted New Zealand and get the target of 240 runs. But it was not a good day for batting department as India lose their top order batsman early.

The wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul were lost in the first four overs, the score was 5 for 3. India continuously lost the wickets, the score was 92 for 6. MS Dhoni was sent to bat at no.7, before Ravindra Jadeja. Both the players brought back the hopes as they set up a great partnership. Dhoni with Jadeja added 116 runs in the scoreboard but could not let India win.

Since then the decision to send Dhoni to bat at no.7 is being criticised. Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj  Singh also went with the same vein as he told to media that he was also surprised with the batting order.

I felt that MS Dhoni should have batted higher being the most experienced – Yuvraj Singh

“I was very surprised that MS came in to bat at No. 7. I felt that he should have batted higher being the most experienced. I don’t know what the team management thought. Anyways it’s done now so” Yuvraj Singh told India Today.

Meanwhile, Dhoni has not played any matches since that World Cup semifinal and has made himself unavailable against South Africa and Bangladesh series in the home ground. Speculations are being made for his selection in the team for next year’s T20I world Cup.
