On Thursday (26th September) night, former South African all-rounder JP Duminy created a history in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after smashing the fastest CPL half-century.
JP Duminy is serving in Barbados Tridents while they were playing against Trinbago Knight Riders at Bridgetown. After winning the toss, Barbados Tridents openers Johnson Charles and Jonathan Carter provided a very good start as they had the 110-run partnership. Both the openers scored half-centuries in that innings. While the wicketkeeper-batsman Charles scored 58 runs off 39 balls (8 fours), Carter played 51 runs knock off 46 balls (5 fours and only six). After their dismissals, fiery JP Duminy controlled that innings.
JP Duminy completed 50 runs off just 15 balls
The left-handed batsman JP Duminy came to bat in the 14th over and completed his half-century in just 15 balls. It was the fastest half-century in CPL history. The previous record was 17-ball half-century by Evin Lewis (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots) against Jamaica Tallawahs at Basseterre on 10th September 2019.

The 35-year-old Duminy finally scored 65 runs off just 20 balls before losing his wicket in the last over. In that record-breaking innings, he hit four fours and seven sixes.
With the help of three 50+ scores by the top-order batsmen, Barbados Tridents managed to score 192/5 (20 overs).
Chasing down that challenging total, the defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders lost their wickets in regular intervals. Finally, they were bundled out for just 129 runs (17.4 overs). Apart from 20 extras, only Colin Munro (23 runs) and Darren Bravo (28 runs) managed to reach the 20-run mark.
The Barbados Tridents’ leg-spinner Hayden Walsh managed to claim a fifer, while Duminy shined with the ball too. Walsh had the bowling figures of 4-0-19-5. Meanwhile, the off-spinner Duminy picked up two wickets and had the bowling figures of 2.4-0-24-2.

Barbados Tridents won this match by 63 runs and Duminy undoubtedly won the Player of the Match award. It was their third victory in this season as they have earned six points in seven matches. At present, Barbados Tridents are standing in the fourth position of the points table.
On the other hand, Trinbago Knight Riders are standing in the second position of the points table after securing nine points in seven matches.
