India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said he tries to keep things as simple as possible. We have seen Ashwin trying a lot of variations when it comes to white-ball format. However, Ashwin believes it is imperative to stick to the basics in the red-ball version. The off-spinner made a roaring comeback into the side in the first Test match at Visakhapatnam against South Africa.

Ashwin scalped seven wickets in the first innings as he was the standout bowler for India. The off-spinner was right on the money and made the most of the conditions. In fact, it was not easy to get wickets in the first innings and Ashwin had to use all his guile in flummoxing the Proteas batsmen.

Ashwin was at his best.

On the other hand, Ashwin completed 350 Test wickets and became the joint-fastest to the landmark with legendary Muttiah Muralitharan. Both the off-spinners took 66 Test matches to get to the milestone.

In a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Twitter, Ashwin said while taking to fielding coach R Sridhar: “Obviously these things happen over a period of time. It is not like you can plan for these sorts of records. I have been very lucky, but it is important to stick to the process and your basics.”

“I want to keep it as simple as possible. When it comes to my skill, I want to be prepared to the best of my ability. I try to be in the best possible physical and mental space getting into a match. I want to keep it really simple,” he added.

Furthermore, Ashwin was able to take one wicket in the second innings. Ashwin bowled Theunis de Bruyn who was his 350th wicket in the Test fold.

Ravichandran Ashwin was unfortunate as he was left out of the Test-playing XI on the recent tour of West Indies. Thus, Ashwin has let his performance do all the talking for him.
