ToggleThe 26-year-old Mumbai batsman Shivam Dube slammed a firing century on Thursday (10th October). However, his team suffered a very close defeat.
It was the Group Stage match of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019/20 between Karnataka and Mumbai at Bengaluru. After winning the toss, the defending champions Mumbai decided to bowl first. The top-order Karnataka batsmen dominated and it led the team to the big first-innings total.
Openers KL Rahul and Devdutt Padikkal put a giant 137 runs partnership for the opening wicket. Rahul scored 58 runs off 57 balls. Soon after Rahul’s dismissal, Padikkal lost his wicket on 79 runs off 85 balls.

While Karun Nair returned to the pavilion cheaply, in-form captain Manish Pandey scored another half-century. The right-handed batsman this time scored 62 runs off 64 balls.
The middle-order batsmen also performed powerfully at late of that innings as Karnataka managed to score 312/7 (50 overs).
Shivam Dube scored 58-ball century
In reply, the Mumbai top-order batsmen got good starts but failed to convert those to the big scores. Due to the wickets falling in regular intervals, Mumbai were feeling under pressure with the time progress. At one stage, the defending champions were struggling on 169/6 and 207/7.
However, the middle-order batsman Shivam Dube showed the never-give-up attitude with his strong batting performance. Dube first completed his half-century in 41 balls. After that, he consistently bashed the bowlers and completed his maiden List A century in just 58 balls. This dominant knock suddenly helped Mumbai to return in that game.
However, at the crucial stage, Dube lost his wicket on 118 runs off 67 balls. Before losing his wicket, Dube hit seven fours and 10 sixes in that innings. Later, the lower-order batsmen tried hard but Mumbai were all out on 303 runs (48.1 overs). Karnataka won that match by only nine runs.

If Hardik is not available for the limited overs leg in NZ, it would be interesting to see whether India goes back to Vijay Shankar or draft in Shivam Dube.

Karnataka vs. Mumbai always throws up thrillers.
This time around, we won. By just 9 runs. Shivam Dube with a 118 off 67 almost stole this win from us though.

BCCI is the richest cricket board in the world but can’t afford a 2 camera stream also of a domestic odi game. Shivam Dube is playing an absolute blinder here and no way to watch.
