MSK Prasad has faced many criticisms during his ongoing tenure as the chief selector of the Indian national cricket team. However, he and his other selection committee members still can get the extension for that post for two more years.

Former Indian wicketkeeper MSK Prasad has taken over the chief selector post in September 2016. Before that, he was also a member of that selection committee.

During his ongoing tenure as a chief selector, MSK Prasad has faced many criticisms. Most recently, Prasad has faced backlashes after commenting on MS Dhoni‘s international cricket future. Talking about that Prasad has claimed that they are moving on from Dhoni and backing the youngsters for the future.

Since the end of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, former Indian captain MS Dhoni hasn’t played a cricket match yet. Due to the silence on his cricket future along with continuous unavailability in the selection, the retirement speculation on Dhoni’s international career was growing up with the time progress. Prasad’s recent comment has made the situation more haphazard.

Earlier, MSK Prasad also faced criticism for his activities as the chief selector. His handling the talk and work on senior cricketers’ future is always questionable. Similarly, he also faced many questions about his communicative skills with the players.

The newly amended constitution will allow MSK Prasad to stay as chief selector till 2021

According to the old BCCI constitution, the selectors’ term was four years. But the newly amended constitution allows a five-year term for the selectors. Now, the newly elected BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has to take the decision whether MSK Prasad-led selection committee runs according to the old constitution or gets extension according to the new constitution.

If the amended constitution comes into the action, then the MSK Prasad-led selection committee can stay in their position till September 2021.

On last Thursday (24th October), the selection committee had a meeting along with the newly elected BCCI President. Indian captain Virat Kohli and the limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma were also present in that meeting.

During the press conference, Prasad faced the question on his future as the selection committee head. But he decided to keep silence on this matter.
