MSK Prasad’s term as chief selector of the Indian cricket team is set to end after BCCI’s AGM next month. The new BCCI constitution does mention a five-year term for selectors but Prasad, who was elevated to the post of chief selector in 2016, might have to move on with one year left on his contract. He had joined the selection committee in 2015 and became its chairman a year later.

As per a report in Mumbai Mirror, the name of former India spinner-turned commentator, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, is making to take his place. Whether he replaces him as chief selector or not is a different thing but he does have the backing from TNCA, which is still a powerhouse in BCCI. Former N Srinivasan has served as ICC’s chairman and BCCI’s President.
As per the report, the likes of Ashish Nehra, Ajit Agarkar, Deep Dasgupta and Rohan Gavaskar are also in the fray for the selector’s job. Nehra, Dasgupta and Gavaskar are commentators while Agarkar is a cricket-expert for a platform. Nehra was also associated with Royal Challengers Bangalore for two years as bowling coach but the franchise sacked its entire coaching staff in August.

Prasad, after being done with the chairman’s job, will turn to commentary in Telugu, the report mentions. He has held the most important position in Indian cricket for more than three years and is always talked about whenever he announces squads.

Prasad, who is set to be replaced as chief selector, might be joined by one or two selectors. Dilip Vengsarkar is also a strong candidate to make comeback in the section panel as Chairman but it might not be the case because he has held the position earlier.

The BCCI’s AGM on December 1 will give clarity over the ongoing issue in BCCI. There is also a talk that the bord might also like to make changes into the reforms, which will see Sourav Ganguly serve as BCCI’s President for more than nine months. As for now, he will have to leave his position in September 2020 and will have to go on a mandatory cooling-off period.
