After serving an eight months ban from cricket, the Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw is back with a bang. Shaw played a heroic innings for Mumbai in Baroda where he scalped the third-fastest double century in Ranji Trophy history. The former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar, who felt that the eight-month ban was a bit too harsh for Shaw, reminded Virender Sehwag when Shaw plays his shots.
The Indian Test cricketer, Prithvi Shaw was handed an eight-month ban from the cricket ground for a doping violation in the 2018-19 domestic season. The 20-year-old cricketer had unknowingly consumed a cough syrup that contained prohibited substance terbutaline.
However, the veteran former Indian cricketer Vengsarkar was against that decision saying that Prithvi Shaw was just 19 years old at that time and might not have known about the prohibited substances. He said that the punishment of three-months would have sufficed the level of the crime which the talented batsman had committed.
Talking to the Gulf News from Mumbai, Vengsarkar said: “Shaw is an outstanding cricketer and there is no question about his abilities. It was a big jolt he had to face because he had a cough syrup that contained a banned substance. Now he is more mature and will be wiser too.”
Prithvi Shaw can clear the ground at will: Vengsarkar

The Mumbai cricketer, who at the mere age of 14, turned heads with his performance at the Mumbai’s Harris Shield, celebrated his 20th birthday in last month. Prithvi Shaw promised to again score heavily after his ban will be lifted and he has truly made an impactful comeback.
On Wednesday, Shaw went on to smash and score a sensational double century for Mumbai in the second innings against Baroda. In the first innings, the right-handed batsman scored 66 runs to which he added his stunning 202 runs studded with seven sixes and 19 fours.
Speaking about the spectacular performance given by Shaw, Vengsarkar added that Shaw’s performance reminds him Virender Sehwag.
He said, “He is playing extremely well. The amount of shots he has in repertoire is amazing. He reminds me of (Virender) Sehwag for the number of shots he plays and he can clear the ground at will.”
Before the ongoing Ranji Trophy, Shaw played at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he aggregated 240 runs in the five innings. He scored three half-centuries in that event after completing his ban.
