On Sunday (15th December), the hosts India and the visiting side Windies played the first ODI of the three-match ODI series at MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chennai) that the visitors won by eight wickets and have taken the 1-0 lead in this series.

After losing the toss, the hosts managed to score the first innings total of 287/8 (50 overs). The visitors reached the target in 47.5 overs after losing only two batsmen.

  • It was the third-highest successful ODI chase for the Caribbean side against India. Their top two records in this list are successfully chasing 291 runs (291/5 at Vadodara on 18th November 2002) and 289 runs (289/8 at Visakhapatnam on 24th November 2013).

i) Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant scored 71 runs.

  • It was the second-best ODI knock by an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman against Windies at home. Rahul Dravid is holding the record in this list with 109 not out at Ahmedabad on 15th November 2002.

i) Wicketkeeper-batsman Shai Hope scored his fifth ODI century on the Asian soil.

  • Among the non-Asian wicketkeeper-batsmen, it is the most number of ODI centuries on the Asian soil. South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock is in the next position in this list with four ODI centuries in Asia.

i) The left-handed batsman Shimron Hetmyer hit seven sixes.

  • It is the joint-most sixes in an ODI innings for a Windies left-handed batsman against India. Once again Shimron Hetmyer hit the same number of sixes (seven) at Visakhapatnam on 24th October 2018. 

ii) Shimron Hetmyer scored 139 runs.

  • It was the second-highest individual ODI score by a Windies batsman against India in the second innings of a match. The record-holder is Shivnarine Chanderpaul who scored 149* at Nagpur on 21st January 2007.

i) For the second wicket, Shai Hope and Shimron Hetmyer put the 218 runs partnership.

  • It is the record partnership for Windies in the second innings of an ODI match. The previous record was 200* opening partnership between Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Stuart Williams at Bridgetown on 3rd May 1997. 
  • It was Windies’ second-highest ODI partnership for any wicket against India. The record is the second-wicket partnership of 221 runs between Gordon Greenidge and Sir Viv Richards at Jamshedpur on 7th December 1983.
