Cricket Australia (CA) chief executive Kevin Roberts has praised the idea of BCCI new President Sourav Ganguly for suggesting the “ODI super series” but hasn’t assured for any commitment.
Sourav Ganguly has proposed the idea of starting an annual ODI tournament among India, Australia, England, and one other invited nation. This limited over tournament has been labelled as the “Super Series” which according to Ganguly may start from 2021. However, this series defies the ICC’s prohibition of non-ICC tournaments (apart from the Asia Cup) comprising any more than three teams in current and future Members Participation Agreements (MPA).

CA CEO has also said that it is an innovative idea by Ganguly. He also praised the efforts of the former Indian captain for taking bold steps in Indian cricket, mentioning the first day-night Test match played by India at Kolkata.
“I think it’s an example of the innovative thinking coming out of the BCCI with Sourav Ganguly as president,” Roberts said.
“In his very short time, only a couple of months, we have already seen India commit to and host a day-night Test in Kolkata, so a brilliant result there. And now a suggestion around the Super Series, another potential innovation,” he added.
Recently, Ganguly went to London for the discussion with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on this subject. The ECB has said that they are open for the discussion on the BCCI’s idea and looking forward to what other members have a view on the four-nation tournament.
Meanwhile, Roberts will travel to India to meet Ganguly and the new BCCI administration in Mumbai in January during Australia’s tour of India for the three-match ODI series.
