Sourav Ganguly, MS Dhoni

Sourav Ganguly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President, has recently clarified that the former Indian captain MS Dhoni already talked with the present Indian captain Virat Kohli about his future plans.

Since the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, MS Dhoni hasn’t played a cricket match yet as he has made himself unavailable for the game. Though recently he was present in Indian national cricket team’s dressing room, there is no clarification about his future plan in international cricket career. Recently, Dhoni has requested everyone to not ask about his cricket future till January 2020. Due to his silence as well as no clarification from the team and board, many speculations are growing up with the time progress.

However, the BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has clarified that the Indian captain Virat Kohli has the best idea on MS Dhoni’s future as they had communication.

The BCCI President told during a special show ‘Inspiration’ on India Today, “He’s had communication with the captain, I am sure he has had communication with the selectors, and I don’t think this is the platform to discuss about it.”

You won’t get another MS Dhoni very, very soon

Sourav Ganguly has also confirmed that he hasn’t spoken to MS Dhoni about his decision on his cricket career but has full confidence in his decision.

Ganguly added, “It’s his (Dhoni) decision what he wants to do, but I don’t know. I haven’t spoken to him, but he’s a champion, he’s been an absolute champion in Indian cricket.

“You won’t get another MS Dhoni very, very soon, but what he does – whether he wants to play, whether he doesn’t want to play, is up to him.”

Sourav Ganguly wants to talk with the captain and coach about India’s future in the ICC tournaments

Though the Indian team is performing very well in every cricket format, including in the tournaments, they haven’t won an ICC trophy in the last six years. India’s last ICC trophy victory was winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. Sourav Ganguly feels that it is one of the important points which he needs to talk with the present Indian captain (Virat Kohli) and head coach (Ravi Shastri).

Ganguly quoted, “This is one thing which needs to be addressed and at some stage, I will speak to Virat and Ravi.”

In the last six years, India have played four ICC tournaments where they lost three semi-finals and one final. Sourav Ganguly has called that the present Indian team is very strong but needs to find a way to get past the hurdle in the tournament decider games.

He added, “The players that you need to find a way to get past the hurdle in the game whether it’s a mental hurdle or whatever.

“It’s a very strong team but when you have to go past the semi-finals, like in this (2019) World Cup. They played so well, but lost to New Zealand in one day.”

India’s next ICC tournament will be the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia that will run from 18th October to 15th November 2020. Sourav Ganguly believes that the present Indian team is capable of winning this tournament. However, Ganguly has also pointed out that India needs to solve their first batting issues.

The BCCI President claimed, “I think they are capable, I have certain opinions and ideas looking from the outside. I’ll speak to him in private. T20 cricket needs freedom which has to be implanted in this Indian team.

“As a batting unit, they chase very well because they know what score to get, but they are in trouble when they bat first most number of times, so I think that he needs to solve it.”
