Dale Steyn, Melbourne Stars

South Africa pacer Dale Steyn hit out at a user on social media who questioned team’s famous victory over England in the opening Test in Centurion. Steyn took to Twitter to praise South African players following the victory. However, one of the users raised question over the win and opined that win wasn’t a big as SA were playing in home conditions.

Steyn was quick to hit back and questioned if India’s win at home soil could be counted? “I guess India in India also doesn’t count then either… And just by the way, God has nothing to do with this. Idiot,” he wrote on Twitter.

Playing their first Test under a new coaching panel headed by Mark Boucher, SA finally registered a win in the longest format. After being asked to bat, the home team lost the wicket of Dean Elgar right on the first delivery of the Test as he nicked one to wicket-keeper Jos Buttler off James Anderson. The home team continued to lose wickets at regular intervals and scored 284 in the first innings.

Led by Vernon Philander, SA’s bowling attacked dismissed England for 181 in their first innings. Debutant Rassie van der Dussen led the charge in the second innings and scored 51 to help home team score 272 in third innings of the Test.

Chasing a target of 376, the visitors had a cautious start but Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje shared seven wickets to dismiss England for 268 to lead their team to a 107-run victory. South Africa now lead four-match Test series 1-0.
