Talking about India’s continuous waiting to win the ICC trophies, the Indian limited-overs vice-captain Rohit Sharma has pointed out that the youngsters’ growing up experiences in international cricket can end this wait soon.

It was an amazing year in 2019 for the Indian national cricket team. There is no doubt that they have strengthened their position in international cricket with their consistent performances. The team and players created many records in international cricket level. If we want to focus on any major failure of this side in the last year, we can only possibly point out failing to win the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019.

Though India mostly dominated in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, they failed to win the rain-interrupted semi-final of that tournament against New Zealand that stretched to the reserve-day. Although the top-order Indian batsmen lost their wickets very early, the middle-order batsmen (especially experienced MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja) fought hard and took the game closer to the victory, but they were just 18 runs short.

After winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in England and Wales under the leadership of MS Dhoni, India haven’t won a single ICC tournament yet. However, while they have played five ICC tournaments since then, they lost three semi-finals and two finals.

Things are changing now: Rohit Sharma

Talking about India’s recent drought of ICC tournaments, Rohit Sharma has assured that the growing-up experiences of the talented youngsters will make the better chance for the side to win the future ICC tournaments.

Rohit recently told PTI, “The problem is that between KL (Rahul), Rishabh, Shreyas and Shivam, they haven’t played many matches together as a team. But that will happen now and once that happens, they will get some confidence.

“Things are changing now. Shreyas (Iyer) is No.4 now and he is doing pretty well. Rishabh (Pant) did well in the West Indies ODIs. Shivam (Dube) has started doing well. So, I am confident, our youngsters will step up.”

KL has had a good time and will go in with a good mindset moving forward

During this talk, Rohit Sharma spoke about Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, who are strengthening their spots in the limited-overs cricket by performing consistently. However, the limited-overs vice-captain has also pointed out that the team can’t be judged quickly after watching them playing together in just two or three consistent matches.

Rohit Sharma added, “Shreyas knows that he will now bat at No.4 for years to come. He feels secure and can now execute his plans freely. The other guys will first need to make the respective spots their own.

“KL has had a good time and will go in with a good mindset moving forward. We can’t really judge them as a group after two or three matches. We need to wait till they have played sufficient matches together.”

Indian national cricket team is now seriously looking forward to winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020. Australia will host this tournament from 18th October to 15th November 2020.
