England finish second in Group, to face in-form India in semis

On Sunday (12th January), the All-India Women’s Selection Committee has announced the 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. The selection committee has also announced the 16-member squad for the earlier T20I tri-series in Australia.

Australia is getting ready to host the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 that will run between 21st February and 8th March 2020. A total of 10 teams will participate in this seventh edition of this tournament.

Hosts and defending champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are in the Group A. At the same time, England, South Africa, West Indies, Pakistan and Thailand are in the Group B. At the end of the Group stage, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners will meet in the final at MCG (Melbourne) on 8th March 2020.

One uncapped player has been selected for India Women’s team

Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian team in the forthcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020. Only Richa Ghosh is the uncapped player in this squad. Harmanpreet also led the Indian team in the previous edition where her team reached the semi-final.

While Australia Women have won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for four times, including the last edition (2018), England Women (inaugural edition in 2009) and West Indies Women (2016) have won this trophy once each. India Women’s best record in this tournament was semi-final where they reached thrice (2009, 2010 and 2018).

Meanwhile, before the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, India Women will play a T20I tri-series against England Women and the hosts Australia Women. This tri-series will run between 31st January and 12th February 2020. The selection committee has announced a 16-member squad for this series by adding Nuzhat Parveen with the T20I World Cup squad.
