The 20-year-old opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has reportedly regained fitness as he recently cleared the mandatory Yo-Yo test. While he set to join India A team in New Zealand, the national selectors are now in their final preparation to sort out the ODI and Test squads for the upcoming New Zealand tour.

Prithvi Shaw missed out the earlier flight of New Zealand tour with India A squad due to his left shoulder injury. On the day one (3rd January) of the Ranji Trophy 2019/20 match against Karnataka, Mumbai youngster Shaw suffered from rotator cuff and labrum injury to his left shoulder during his fielding. While earlier on that day Shaw scored 29 runs, he didn’t come out to bat during team’s second innings of that match.

Soon, Prithvi Shaw moved to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru to follow the rehabilitation process. According to a recent report from TOI, Shaw cleared the mandatory Yo-Yo test at the NCA on last Tuesday (14th January).

A source told TOI, “He cleared the mandatory yo-yo test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) on Tuesday morning. He should be flying on the 16th or 17th of January to join the India A side in New Zealand.”

On his official social media accounts, Prithvi Shaw also uploaded a video of his batting practice where he was seen to be happy for managing the proper net sessions.

Though he missed out both the practice matches for India A in the New Zealand tour, he is set to be available for the remaining tour. In this New Zealand tour, India A will play three List A games and two four-day unofficial Test matches against New Zealand A between 22nd January and 10th February 2020. Shaw has been named in all the squads for this tour. It is the preparatory tour for some Indian cricketers before the Test series in New Zealand.

After the conclusion of the ongoing home ODI series against Australia, the senior Indian cricketers will travel to New Zealand for the long international series. In this tour, India will play the five-match T20I series, three-match ODI series and two-match Test series against the hosts. India’s journey in this tour will run between 24th January and 4th March 2020.

While the selectors have already announced the T20I squad for the New Zealand tour, they will soon announce the ODI and Test squads for this tour. As Prithvi Shaw has performed impressively in the recent domestic cricket, the selectors want to add him at least in the Test squad for the forthcoming New Zealand tour.
