Once again New Zealand surprisingly failed to win a match despite performing superiorly in most of the times. On Friday (31st January), the visitors India once again beat the hosts New Zealand in the Super Over during the fourth T20I of the five-match series at Wellington.
In the absence of New Zealand captain Kane Williamson, Tim Southee led the home team in this match and decided to bowl first after winning the toss. The Indian team managed to score 165/8 (20 overs) in the first innings. New Zealand once again tied the game as they scored 165/7 (20 overs).
In the Super Over, the hosts scored 13/1, and the visitors replied with 16/1 (5 balls).
New Zealand again failed in the last over
Chasing down the 166 runs target, New Zealand opener Martin Guptill lost his wicket for just four runs. However, another opener Colin Munro and the wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Seifert managed that early situation very well. Both Munro and Seifert scored half-centuries, and they put 74 runs partnership for the second wicket.

Munro was dismissed on 64 runs off 47 balls (6 fours and 3 sixes). Though Tom Bruce scored a duck, experienced Ross Taylor controlled the late situation properly and put the 62 runs partnership with Seifert.
While Taylor scored 24 runs, Seifert played the knock of 57 runs off 39 balls (4 fours and 3 sixes). However, once again, the dramatic final over changed the game situation as New Zealand failed to score required seven runs in the last over. In that final over, the hosts scored six runs and lost four wickets, including two run-outs.

The Indian pacer Shardul Thakur (2/33) took two wickets in the last over while Jasprit Bumrah (1/20) and Yuzvendra Chahal (1/38) picked up one wicket each.
India were struggling on 88/6
Earlier, the Indian team management tried with the new opening batting combination as KL Rahul and Sanju Samson opened the innings. However, it didn’t work for the visitors as Samson (8) was dismissed cheaply after putting only 14 runs partnership for the first wicket. The Indian batsmen struggled from the initial period as they went down to 88/6.
While the wicketkeeper-batsman Rahul scored 38 runs, captain Virat Kohli (11), Shreyas Iyer (1), Shivam Dube (12) and Washington Sundar (0) failed to face at least 10 balls. That situation was handled by Manish Pandey and Shardul Thakur as they put a crucial 43-run partnership for the seventh wicket. After Thakur lost his wicket on 20 runs off 15 balls, Pandey controlled that innings till the end. Pandey’s unbeaten 50 runs off 46 balls (3 fours) helped the visitors to manage a respected fighting total in the first innings. Navdeep Saini also played an important cameo of 11 not out (9 balls).

The Kiwi leg-spinner Ish Sodhi (3/26) took three wickets, and the right-arm pacer Hamish Bennett (2/41) scalped two wickets in that innings. Also, the skipper Tim Southee (1/28), Scott Kuggeleijn (1/39) and Mitchell Santner (1/26) picked up one wicket each.
After this victory, India have taken the 4-0 lead in this series with one match to go.

The series scoreline should have been 2-2. Instead, it is now 4-0 for India.
Incidentally, no side has won a T20I bilateral series 5-0.#INDvsNZ #IndvNZ #NZvsIND— Mohandas Menon (@mohanstatsman) January 31, 2020
