Cricket Australia (CA) has announced the two teams’ squads for the Bushfire Cricket Bash. Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar and former superstar Yuvraj Singh are in different teams.
The Bushfire Cricket Bash will be played between Ponting XI and Gilchrist XI. It will be a 10-over-per-side contest which will be played to raise funds for Australian bushfire victims. Initially, it was scheduled to be played on 8th February at Sydney Cricket Ground. But due to the forecast of torrential rain, the match has been shifted to Melbourne’s Junction Oval, and the new date of this match is 9th February. Due to change of the date, Shane Warne will miss this match, who was initially agreed to lead one of those sides.
Bushfire Cricket Bash teams’ players
On Thursday (6th February), the XI-member squads of Ponting XI and Gilchrist XI have been announced. Only one place is vacant in the Gilchrist XI side which will be announced soon. While Ricky Ponting and Adam Gilchrist will play the leadership roles for their respective teams, Sachin Tendulkar will coach the Ponting XI, and Tim Paine will coach Gilchrist XI.
While the skipper Adam Gilchrist will play the wicketkeeping role for his team, Brad Haddin will take the wicketkeeping responsibility for Ponting XI.
Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Wasim Akram, Brett Lee etc. are in the same team. Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer will open for them.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh will serve for Gilchrist XI where we can also see Shane Watson, Andrew Symonds, Courtney Walsh, Peter Siddle etc. Luke Hodge, former Australian rules football star, will also play for this side.
Among the women’s cricketers, Elyse Villani and teenager Phoebe Litchfield will serve for Ponting XI. Meanwhile, Alex Blackwell will play against them as she will represent for Gilchrist XI. Former Australian rules football star Nick Riewoldt will participate for this team.
Due to the date changing, Steve Waugh, Michael Clarke and Mike Hussey will also miss in this Bushfire Cricket Bash along with the women’s cricketers Holly Ferling and Grace Harris and rugby league star Brad Fittler.
