The visitors India lost another ODI against the hosts New Zealand at Eden Park (Auckland). After this result in the second game of this three-match ODI series, the hosts have secured this series by leading it 2-0 with one to go.

After winning the toss, the Indian skipper Virat Kohli decided to field first. The hosts managed to score 273/8 (50 overs) in the first innings. Despite their fight till the end, the visitors were bowled out for 251 runs (48.3 overs).

New Zealand openers Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls provided a solid start with 93 runs partnership. After Nicholls was dismissed on 41 runs, Guptill and Tom Blundell put the 49 runs partnership for the second wicket. In the early second-wicket partnership, Guptill completed his half-century in 49 balls. Blundell lost his wicket after scoring 22 runs.

Ross Taylor and Guptill were focusing to build up another solid partnership but the opener’s run-out changed the situation of that game. When Guptill was run-out on run-a-ball 79 runs (8 fours and 3 sixes), the hosts were batting on 157/3. Suddenly, the New Zealand team faced the massive batting collapse and they went down to 197/8.

However, the last game hero Ross Taylor was still in the crease and he handled that late situation wisely. The debutant Kyle Jamieson provided the proper support to the experienced cricketer as they built up the game-changing 76 runs partnership for the unbroken ninth wicket. At the end of that innings, while Taylor was batting on 73 off 74 balls (6 fours and 2 sixes), Jamieson remained not out on 25 runs off 24 balls.

Among the Indian bowlers, Yuzvendra Chahal (3/58) took three wickets and Shardul Thakur (2/60) picked up two wickets. Also, Ravindra Jadeja (1/35) got one wicket in that innings.

Indian cricketers fought hard despite the top-orders had an off-day

In reply, India were losing their wickets at regular intervals from the beginning of that innings. Among the top six batsmen, only Shreyas Iyer managed to perform strongly as he scored 52 runs off 57 balls (7 fours and only six).

While India were struggling on 153/7, Ravindra Jadeja and Navdeep Saini surprised with the 76 runs partnership for the eighth wicket. Saini scored 45 runs off 49 balls, and Jadeja scored 55 runs off 73 balls before becoming the last batsman to lose his wicket.

Hamish Bennett (2/58), Tim Southee (2/41), debutant Kyle Jamieson (2/42) and Colin de Grandhomme (2/54) all took two wickets each during that Indian innings. Also, James Neesham (1/52) took the last wicket of that innings.
