India women’s cricketers are pleased as punch as they’ve qualified for their maiden final at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournament on Thursday after their semi-final game against England got washed out without a ball being bowled at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

Harmanpreet Kaur-led team made it through to the final after entering the knockout stages as the Group A table-toppers with four wins in as many games.

India remained as the unbeaten side in the tournament as they beat the likes of Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and New Zealand in the group stage fixtures.

Shafali Verma, and spinners; Poonam Yadav, Rajeshwari Gaekwad, Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma rose to the occasion with individual performances and helped India register crucial victories in the competition.

On the contrary, England had a better net run-rate than India but a loss at the hands of South Africa in their opening fixture meant that they were crashed out after having won three games out of four in the group stage.

Former Australia batsman Mark Waugh has slammed the International Cricket Council (ICC) for not scheduling a reserve day for the semi-finals in the ongoing women’s T20 World Cup.

The first semi-final of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup between India and England was washed out as rain played spoilsport and because of which, India qualified for their maiden final of the World T20 for obvious reasons.

Waugh went on to state that international cricket body decision as ‘absolutely absurd’ while also adding that this destroyed some of the players a lifetime chance of playing in probably the biggest-ever match of their career.

“Not as surprising as ICC not scheduling reserve days for finals in the biggest tournament of the year and possibly lifetime for many players. Absolutely absurd,” Mark Waugh tweeted.

India topped the group stage in the league stage and made it to the final where it will lock horns with Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on March 8, Sunday.

Earlier, Australia beat South Africa by five runs to make it to the grand finale.
